Motivations for Aesthetic Considerations Before
Motivations for Aesthetic Considerations Before

Aesthetic and Plastic Surgeon Op. Dr. Alpaslan Topçu replied in Formsante magazine that those who want to have aesthetic surgery are curious about the process.

We can divide the Aesthetic Operation adventure into 3 main processes;

  • Decision making: It is the process that depends on the patient's condition and wishes.
  • Pre-operative planning and preparation: The process that the surgeon and the patient plan and carry out together.
  • Post-operative follow-up and recovery period: Regular follow-ups after the operation and the process in which the patient must follow the surgeon's recommendations.
  • Operation decision process

In the operation decision, the patient usually applies to the surgeon with a request. As the surgeon finds this request appropriate and realistic, the operation decision is taken with the patient.

  • The process of mentally preparing for the operation

When evaluating the patients who applied to me, I usually say that if the patient has any hesitation, he should definitely think again after enlightening, and give the patient time.

1- What are the simple reasons that direct people to aesthetic practice? Why is aesthetics used?

The patient sees a physical problem in the area he wants aesthetics and wants to correct this problem.

2- Women and men in what age range most often apply to aesthetics. What do you attribute the reasons to?

Application ages vary according to the type of aesthetic operation. Operations such as nose and breast augmentation are mostly performed in the age range of 18-25, while eyelid aesthetics for the face, facelift, and neck lift are mostly performed in the 50s. So it can be any age between 18-65 years. Women mostly apply for liposuction, breast augmentation, while men apply for rhinoplasty and liposuction.

3- In the decision phase before the aesthetic application, which subject do people have the most uncertainty and doubt?

There are problems and confusion about the shape, especially in rhinoplasty and breast aesthetics. Here, the patient's expectations must be realistic and full communication between the surgeon and the patient.

4- How should the communication between the person and the expert be at the decision stage? Isn't it important to get along?

The most important factor is that the patient and the surgeon decide together.

5- What points should the people considering aesthetic surgery take into consideration when choosing a doctor/specialist?

Today, unfortunately, social media is full of false information and visual posts on this subject. I think the most important factor in choosing a surgeon should be the reference patients. In other words, you should meet with a satisfied patient who has been operated on that surgeon and talk to your surgeon.

6- Which applications require a different process and motivation before the operation compared to others?

After the stomach reduction operation, many aesthetic operations are required in patients. Long and gradual operations are required for these patients.

7- After the operation, what specific stages are passed in the process of getting used to the new state of the person?

Today, a successful aesthetic operation is aesthetic operations performed for problems that are not noticeable from the outside. In other words, it is not the process of getting used to the new image of the patient, but the healing process and whether the result meets the expectation.

8- If the person is not satisfied with the application, how are we going to a solution?

Another process is required for the patient and the surgeon to decide by talking to each other. It should not be forgotten that even if he is the best surgeon in the world, the complication and revision rate is between 1 and 5%. So in this case, a second intervention is inevitable.
